The ‘Ballance House’ Daffodil

On Sunday 27th October 2019 the newly-registered ‘Ballance House’ daffodil was launched.  It was bred by the Northern Ireland Daffodil Group President, Brian Duncan and presented to UNZT in recognition of the legacy of John Ballance.

This RHS registered bulb is classified as: Div. 1Y-Y (which means that it is a Yellow trumpet ie, Division 1 = trumpet daffodils where the corona is at least as long as the perianth segments (petals). The first Y means it has yellow petals and the second Y means the corona/trumpet) is also yellow.  Extracts from seedling notebook:

  1. 2015 – Tall, good pose, deep golden yellow, smooth texture.

  2. 2016 – Very smooth, improved ‘Goldfinger’. Lovely deep gold, nicely flanged trumpet. Strong vigorous plant.

  3. 2017 – Lovely form and colour. Great trumpet roll.

  4. Diameter - 108mm.Perianth length - 42mm. Trumpet length - 45mm

Once Registered by the Royal Horticultural Society the name will appear forever in the International Register of Daffodil Names and also in the American Daffodil Society Daffseek.com where details and pictures can be downloaded at any time after confirmation by the RHS.  Entry: ‘Ballance House’ 1Y-Y (Brian S.
